Annually, the NLPOA, Sacramento County Chapter, in partnership with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project, proudly presents college scholarships to some exceptional students. Each of the prior recipients impressed our scholarship board with their personal statements which highlighted their determination and ability to overcome obstacles in an effort to reach their personal goals. We are proud to have met these amazing students and to assist them in reaching their individual goals. We would like to thank Mango's Sacramento for hosting our Scholarship events.

The Joe Fredricks Gomez Memorial Scholarship

On behalf of the Latino Peace Officers Association (LPOA), Sacramento County Chapter, and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Toy Project, we invite you to apply for the Joe Fredericks Gomez Memorial Scholarship. In keeping with our mission, this scholarship is awarded yearly to students who are pursuing higher education.

This year, it is our honor to rename our scholarships in memory of our dear friend and steadfast supporter, Joe Gomez. Joe faced many challenges in life, but it was his tenacity and positive attitude that allowed him to rise above the obstacles he faced to become a successful business owner in Sacramento. Joe was known to say, "When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose." With that in mind, he worked hard, was ambitious and persevered in his drive for success. Joe was a family man and a selfless philanthropist who was engaged with his community. He strongly believed in our mission to support the youth in our community in their educational endeavors. As a friend, mentor and supporter of the Latino Peace Officers Association (LPOA), Sacramento County Chapter, and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Toy Project, Joe generously donated to our organizations and graciously hosted our scholarship ceremonies at his business for the past six years.

Joe Gomez represented the tenets of our mission well, and we hope that recipients of this scholarship will embrace the same goodwill, desire to succeed, and dedication to giving back to their community.
